Why did you choose this area?
I have always considered myself as a "people’s person", therefore being in this role suits me well. I get to meet new people and build a good rapport with them and be someone they feel they can come to if and when they feel the need. I joined the Company with no Marine background/knowledge and I feel being in the Personnel Team has given me the opportunity to learn more about the industry and develop new skills.

How long have you been working with Stena?
I have been with the Company for 6 years. I first joined as a Personnel Assistant. In this role I was dealing with the day-to-day administration work and arranging interview schedules.

After a year or so with the Company, I moved over to the recruitment team and worked as a Recruitment Assistant. In this position I spoke to seafarers of different nationalities, liaised with manning offices and arranged travel and accommodation for seafarers attending the office for interviews. Being in this role also gave me the chance to familiarize myself with seafarer documentation and learn the importance of having these documents.

In 2015, I got the opportunity to be promoted to HR Officer and work within the gas fleet and during this time I have managed to build up a good working relationship with the seafarers I am responsible for, as well as our clients.

What is the best thing with your job?
In my opinion, every day is never the same in the personnel department. Sometimes you are faced with different challenges which gives me the opportunity to problem solve and to think "out of the box". The good thing is having a good team to support you and to give advice. Every day is a learning day as there is always changes within the marine industry which is so fast paced. You must act fast to produce the best results. There is never a dull moment here.

Additionally, you get to meet different seafarers from around the globe, all with different stories to tell regarding their experiences at sea. In the office itself, it is like a big family. People are friendly and helpful here which is always a bonus.

Why would you recommend Stena as an employer?
As an employer, Stena spends time investing in their people and provides opportunities to develop them. For me I have developed a better understanding of the marine industry over the years.
